See you in D.C.!
One of my favorite events of the year is just a few weeks away.
The ACA's National Chiropratic Legislative Conference (NCLC) is February 24-26 in Washington, D.C. Not only is this an opportunity to see many friends from the chiropractic profession, it is an opportunity to learn about issues facing us and talk with lawmakers about those issues.
Last year, over 400 students attended. It is exciting to see so many of our future leaders engaged in the legislative process.
However, attendance by practicing doctors was not nearly as good. About 130 turned out from a profession of over 60,000. Not a good showing and one that is noted by lawmakers when considering the impact of legislation on this profession.
Question: How many medical doctors show up for the AMA legislative conference? I would wager a fair number more than .2% of the profession.

I understand the sentiment and I would love to see more people get involved also. I plead with doctors to get involved and stay involved. When we choose not to particpate we are not led by the best qualified, but instead by the willing.
As a side note every profession has this problem. The medical profession does not get a significantly greater % of attendance at their conventions than we do, but they have a significantly larger pool to draw from. Amounts like 1500 doctors look impressive until you realize that there are 700,000 in the USA. Then you see that that is equal to our 130. I imagine that their attendance is comparable.
