Will they trust me?

Handshake_3 You are new to the area, people don't know who you are, and you want their business.  Why should they trust you?

To channel an old commercial... now that's a tuffy.  Trust is a very delicate concept; it can be very tough to develop and so easy to lose.

As I am fond of saying, here is the bottom line.  People will trust you based off of your reputation.  Period.

Everything you say and do in a community will be seen and heard.

  • If you get silly drunk at a bar and make a scene, people will know.
  • If you help an old lady across the road, people will know.
  • If you use high pressure tactics to get people in your door, people will know.
  • Your advertisements, how you dress, who you associate with, all of these things have an impact on the level of trust you will have in your community.

Building your reputation takes time and consistency, but that is a long discussion to be saved for another blog series.

Remember one thing, even if someone initially doesn't feel comfortable with you, be patient.  As they get to know you, and your reputation grows... they'll make it in.  Happens to me every day at my practice.
